Arcade Archives: Mario Bros. Is Simple But Fun

Yesterday saw the release of Arcade Archives: Mario Bros., the first of several classic Nintendo arcade games due to come out on the Switch. I had never actually played the arcade version of Mario Bros., although I played a lot of the NES port while growing up. Because of this, I thought it would be neat to to give it a try, plus being able to take a game I really like on the go is always appealing. So, how did it turn out? Continue reading

Fire Emblem Awakening Check-In: Week 2

Much like the first entry in this series, I didn’t have nearly as much time to play Awakening as I wanted. It’s really hard to find time to play old games when you’re trying to keep up on this year’s ridiculous number of great games and work a full-time job. But I got some time in and made some progress, so let’s talk about it. As always, let’s go over some numbers. I’ve put in about four hours of play, I’m on chapter 6, and Ivan Ooze is currently level 7. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Atari Video Cube (Atari Flashback Classics Vol. 2)

The second Atari Flashback Classics collection must be full of games that I’ve never heard of before. Just like Gravitar, Atari Video Cube is a game I knew nothing about, but actually came away pretty impressed. It’s still an Atari 2600 game, and thus you can’t expect a whole lot of depth. But, what’s here is pretty cool. Continue reading

Fire Emblem Awakening Check-In: Week 1

I’ve spent a weirdly large amount of time with Fire Emblem games this year, when you consider that it’s not a series that I’ve ever really put any serious time into. There’s Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, a game I didn’t finish, but really enjoyed and need to get back to. And then of course there’s Fire Emblem Heroes, a mobile game that I find myself playing every single day. With this new found interest in Fire Emblem, I really should play through one of the more fan-favorite titles in the series. So, now I’m playing thorugh Fire Emblem Awakening.  Continue reading

Announcing The Next Check-In Series

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you know that I like to play through long games and write up weekly updates. Sometimes, those games turn out to be massive open-ended games that I could lose myself in for months. Sometimes, they end up being charmingly goofy, and instantly become one of my favorites. And other times, they’re Dragon Age: Origins. But what could this next one be? Continue reading

Dragon Age: Origins Check-In Week 9 FINALE

Would you believe I beat Dragon Age: Origins all the way back in May? I beat it in time to get this episode up on schedule. Unfortunately, sometimes it can be hard to get yourself to write something, even when you want to. And then you find yourself months later, overtired and not feeling well, but really wanting to finish it up so you can move on to the next thing. So that’s what’s happening. At this point, I barely remember what happened, and when you combine that with the other things I mentioned, you end up with something that probably will be barely coherent. But here we go anyway. One last time, let’s go over a couple numbers. Ivan Ooze finished the game at level 19. and I played about 28 hours. Continue reading
