I excitedly bought my Sega Genesis Mini on the day it came out, planning to play its really good selection of games for hours on end. That didn’t happen, I mostly just played a bit of Mega Man: The Wily Wars and then got distracted with other stuff. Sometimes the random number generator that decides what I write for this feature is cruel. Today, it selected Final Fantasy IX, a long Japanese role-playing game, and one that I’ve already beaten. So what do I do, play the beginning again? But for what purpose, I’m not getting a new first impression out of it. Do I just load up my save? What will that do, other than look at what the end of the last dungeon looks like? It’s also not fresh enough in my mind to write an actual formal review of it. I really like Kirby, but for whatever reason, his Super Nintendo games are a bit of a blind spot for me. But, a couple of them are available on the Nintendo Switch’s SNES app and the random number generator decided I should check out Kirby’s Dreamland 3. Dreamland 2 was one of my favorite games on the original Game Boy, but is 3 a worthy successor? Well, it’s kind of hard to say after only playing through the first world, but here’s what I thought. It’s been a while since I did a new installment of Random Game Wednesdays, and I thought that for the grand return of the feature, I should go to a new source of games. So, I went with the NES library offered with Nintendo Switch Online. There’s already a decent amount of stuff in there, with favorites, more obscure games, and weird enhanced versions of games, most of which I haven’t touched. The Escapists is a game that I’ve known existed for a long time, but had no idea what it actually was. It was just this game that was constantly on sale on Xbox, and at one point was free for Xbox Live Gold members. That’s when I picked it up and it’s been sitting on my hard drive ever since. I do not like the Dynasty Warriors games and I’ve only just recently started to play the Fire Emblem series, so it was not very likely that I would pick up the Dynasty Warriors-style Fire Emblem game. However, a good Amazon sale can be hard to ignore, and one day I found myself with a copy of the special edition of Fire Emblem Warriors. I didn’t play it, mind you. It just kind of sat on my shelf, looking kind of cool with its extra large box. This morning, the random number generator decided it was time to finally put it in my Switch and see how it is. One of my favorite indie games of all time is Dust: An Elysian Tail. One of my favorite AAA games of all time is Metal Gear Solid. With those things in mind, I was extremely excited when Humble Hearts, developer of Dust, announced that their second game would be a parody of Metal Gear Solid.
