E3 or Whatever 2023 Predictions

Once again, there is no E3. But we won’t let a silly thing like the show getting cancelled stop us from predicting what’s going to get announced! There’s still plenty of individual presentations from publishers happening during what would normally be E3 time. There’s even one happening tomorrow!

I’ve been doing these predictions for even longer than I’ve been writing the blog, they used to just be on my Facebook. The whole time, I’ve been following the same rules, but in case you’re new here, let’s go over them. For each show, I’m going to make three predictions. One is the “Sure Thing”, a guess that I’m very confident in. The next is “Pretty Sure”, one that I think is a decently educated guess. The final one is “Shot in the Dark”, where I just say something crazy on the off chance that it happens. I almost never get shots in the dark right, but it has happened a couple times!

There’s a bunch of shows happening and I decided to go with the ones that were the closest to the traditional E3 press conferences. I’ve also included a Nintendo Direct in there, even though one has not been announced yet. There will almost certainly be one though, right? Anyway, let’s get to the predictions.

PlayStation Showcase (May 24th)

Sure Thing: A new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be shown with a release date.

This was actually one of most difficult predictions for me to come up with. I feel like just about anything could happen at this show. But this is a game that we know is supposed to be out this winter and it’s a big PlayStation exclusive. So, I think it makes sense to get this information.

Pretty Sure: That Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is real.

mgs3

If you follow gaming rumors, you’ve been hearing about a potential remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 for a long time. These rumors really ramped up again recently. Personally, I’d rather see a remake of the original Metal Gear, but I’d be happy to play 3 again. This is one of the rumors that just won’t go away, and I think we’re going to finally see it soon.

Shot in the Dark: PaRappa the Rapper 3.

It’s going to happen eventually, right?

Summer Game Fest (June 8th)

Sure Thing: Death Stranding 2 will have a new and very confusing trailer.

kojima

Geoff Keighley loves Hideo Kojima and will always make room for him at his shows. I don’t think this will be the time that we get a solid release date or anything, but we will get a big story trailer. It won’t make a lot of sense and there will be characters saying things that sound simultaneously profound and nonsensical. Basically, it will be a Hideo Kojima trailer.

Pretty Sure: The Witcher 4 will get revealed.

Summer Game Fest is also pretty tricky to predict, just because it’s not focused on anything in particular. But, we know that CD Projekt Red is one of the partnering companies, so it’s not impossible for them to reveal their next game there.

Shot in the Dark: Mega Man 12.

Similarly to the last one, Capcom is one of the partnering companies for Summer Game Fest. It would be pretty cool if they revealed the next Mega Man there.

Xbox + Bethesda (June 11th)

Sure Thing: Fable gets a release window.

How long has it been since Fable was announced? And we haven’t even seen the game yet, besides a pre-rendered teaser. Xbox desperately needs a big exclusive, and I think they know Fable has the ability to build a lot of hype. I think we’ll get a blowout trailer, showing us what this new game is, and the general time to expect its release. I don’t think they’re ready to commit to a hard release date yet, however.

Pretty Sure: Gears 6 is announced.

The Coalition has been pretty quiet since the release of Gears 5. Insiders have been saying that they’ve been working on multiple projects, but have since cancelled them in favor of Gears 6. I think they’re ready to reveal the game, but it’s still a ways out. I wish I was more confident that Perfect Dark was going to be at this show, because I’m actually really excited to see what that game is, but I don’t think it’s happening this year.

Shot In The Dark: Banjo-Threeie.

banjo-2000

Banjo-Kazooie is still my favorite game of all time. Please make a new one.

Ubisoft Forward (June 12th)

Sure Thing: There’s a new Assassin’s Creed this year.

If there’s one thing that’s always an easy guess, it’s that Ubisoft is ready to show a new Assassin’s Creed. They used to put those games out yearly, but there hasn’t been one since Valhalla in 2020. It’s time.

Pretty Sure: A new Rayman.

rayman

This one was hard to come up with, and it feels borderline “Shot in the Dark”. The last Rayman game, Legends, was released on the Wii U, so it’s been a long time. The character is showing up in an upcoming DLC for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, so I think Ubisoft knows there’s demand for more Rayman.

Shot in the Dark: Beyond Good and Evil 2 gets announced… again.

I don’t think the game we saw as Beyond Good and Evil 2 a few E3s ago still exists. I also don’t think the Beyond Good and Evil 2 we saw way earlier, that actually had characters from the first game in it, exists anymore. But it would be really cool if they announced it again. And I hope it looks closer to that first reveal.

Nintendo Direct (?)

Sure Thing: Ports of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD get shadow-dropped.

The same insiders that eventually turned out to be right about Metroid Prime Remastered have been saying for years that Nintendo is just sitting on these ports. It’s finally time for them to be released.  To make it a little more interesting though, I think they’re going to do the same thing they did for Metroid and release the digital versions on the day of the announcement, with physical versions coming later.

Pretty Sure: Metroid Prime 4 revealed.

Remember the first E3 after the Switch was out when Nintendo announced they were working on Metroid Prime 4? It’s been a long time, the game restarted development at one point, and we still have seen nothing. I think that changes very soon.

Shot in the Dark: StarTropics 3

startropics

Nintendo, take the bananas out of your ears and give us a new StarTropics! Haven’t you exhausted just about every other franchise you have already?

And those are my predictions! What do you think? Am I completely off with these? Is there something you think will definitely be there that I didn’t mention? Let me know in the comments! And be sure to check back tomorrow for my thoughts on the PlayStation Showcase.
