Dragon Age: Origins Check-In Week 4

No amount of weird animations or clunky controls will prevent me from continuing to play through Dragon Age: Origins, even though I’m having much less fun with this one than previous Check-In games. Despite that, I made some serious progress this week. But as always, before we get into all that, let’s talk about some numbers. My current play time is just under 14 hours and Ivan Ooze’s level is 11. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: GunValyrie (Xbox)

I thought I would do something a little bit different for Random Game Wednesdays this week. I’ve covered games on several different platforms, going back to the NES and SNES multiple times, but I haven’t written about a game for the original Xbox yet. My Xbox collection is pretty small, only about twenty games, but there’s some real gems in there. Unfortunately, the random number generator decided to give me a game that I absolutely can’t stand.  Continue reading

Nintendo Switch: First Impressions

Even though it’s only been about four months since the Switch was properly unveiled, the console’s release was a long time coming for me. It was right around two years ago that Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president at the time, announced plans for mobile games developed by Nintendo. To ensure their audience that Nintendo wasn’t abandoning the dedicated video game hardware market, he also announced a new console, at the time code named the NX. This resulted in an obsession to figure out what this thing was that held my attention all the way until today. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Super Mario Kart (SNES)

Random Game Wednesdays is kind of a weird series on this blog. Because I let a random number generator choose the game I cover, we end up with a strange assortment, and you never quite know what you’re going to get. Sometimes I get obscure games that have been sitting on my shelf ever since I found them at Goodwill years ago. Other times, I get undisputed classics. This week is the latter. Continue reading

Dragon Age: Origins Check-In Week 3

Once again, it’s time to see what I’ve done in Dragon Age: Origins this week. I’m not going to lie, this was easily the worst week I’ve had with the game. We’ll get into the specifics in just a little bit, but this week features stuff that was so bad, I don’t think that it was a product of the game aging poorly. On the plus side, it’s my understanding that this particular section was disliked even when the game first came out. But, before we talk about that, we have to talk about numbers. I have currently played the game for just under 10 hours and Ivan Ooze is level 10. Continue reading

Dragon Age: Origins Check-In Week 2

Finding time to play long, demanding games when you’re also working a full time job and trying to keep up on other things is surprisingly difficult. But that’s what this series is, and that’s what I’m going to keep doing. As of right now, my current play time in Dragon Age: Origins is 6 hours and 55 minutes, and my main character is level 8. If you read the previous week’s entry, you know that I kind of screwed up and forgot to write down my time and level before starting week 2’s play session, so I don’t know how much actual time was spent this week.  Continue reading

Hey, Where’s Random Game Wednesdays?

If you’re a reader of this blog, you probably noticed that this week’s Random Game Wednesdays has not yet been posted. Well, I had kind of a busy morning this morning and didn’t get a chance to play anything, which happens sometimes. Usually, when that happens, I’ll play and post later in the day. Unfortunately, I work at 2 in the morning tomorrow and will only be up for another hour or so. So, Random Game Wednesdays this week should be out on Thursday. With any luck, I’ll get the second episode of Dragon Age Origins Check-In up too. Thanks for the patience!

Random Game Wednesdays: Mortal Kombat X (XL?) (Xbox One)

I was very surprised today when I booted up Mortal Kombat X today. Some time after the game’s release, a version of the game came out that included all the DLC and was called Mortal Kombat XL. I thought this was a pretty cute name for an extra large version of it. Apparently, when that version was released, there was also a patch put out that changed the title of the game to Mortal Kombat XL. So, even though I haven’t bought any of the DLC, and what I have is the same as what was on X, it now says that I’m playing XL. Huh. Continue reading
