Random Game Wednesdays: Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)

In high school, an acquaintance of mine loaned me his copy of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon. I haven’t stayed in contact with that acquaintance and honestly don’t even remember his name. I just remember that we used to talk about video games in gym class instead of doing whatever we were supposed to be doing. I’m pretty sure that the copy of Goemon that I played this morning is actually his. Whoops. Continue reading

My Ten Favorite Games Of 2016

2016 was a pretty good year for video games. Unfortunately, I didn’t have nearly as much disposable income to buy games as I had in years past, and the end result is that a lot of the biggest games of the year, I haven’t played. I also, don’t own a PlayStation 4, so I haven’t played games like Uncharted 4 or The Last Guardian. But, I was still able to come up with a list of ten games that I played this year. It’s probably pretty different from most of the lists you’ve seen on other sites. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Super Star Wars (SNES)

Licensed games were a dime a dozen back in the days of the SNES and Genesis, and most of the time, they were junk. But every once in a while, you’d come across one that didn’t seem too bad. You might even call it “good”. The Super Star Wars trilogy on Super Nintendo were games that fit that description and ate up a good chunk of my childhood. But, standards change with time, and games that we were into when we were younger suddenly aren’t always worth going back to. So, how does Super Star Wars hold up? Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Star Soldier (NES)

I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable about video games, but every once in a while I come across a game that I’ve never heard of before. I’m almost embarrassed to admit that Star Soldier is one of those games. When the random number generator gave me this game, I honestly didn’t even know what genre it was. Turns out it’s part of a long running series, one that’s had sequels, re-releases, and remakes going all the way until 2013. But yeah, I had no idea what this was. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Hey You, Pikachu! (N64)

Sometimes, games come out that are very difficult to describe. Maybe they’re overly complicated or maybe their objectives are just hard to put into words. And then there’s other times when you can describe the whole thing in a single sentence and then have to try to write a decently long entry anyway. Hey You, Pikachu is a game where you talk to Pikachu. That’s about it.  Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Anticipation (NES)

Some games are so simple in nature that I’m honestly not sure if I’d be able to make a blog post that was decently long before running out of things to say. But, it’s Wednesday, so I have to write about the game that the random number generator gives me. This week it gave me Anticipation, a 1988 board game style video game from Rare. It’s actually a game I like a lot, and one that I was kind of disappointed to see not included in Rare Replay. Continue reading

Circling Forward 11-29-16: The One Before The Game Awards

You might remember that last week, I mentioned that I would be posting a first impressions piece on Pokemon Sun and Moon. Well, I ran into one little problem with that. I kept playing the game instead of writing about it. I’m now just about twenty hours into the game and have beaten three out of the four kahunas. At this point, “first impressions” doesn’t really make any sense, so I’ve decided instead to wait until I’ve beaten the game and post a full review. Sorry about the wait for Pokemon content, but it’ll be a better read this way, I think. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Predator (NES)

It’s been a while since the random number generator gave me a crappy NES licensed game. But, today it gave me one that I had played a lot growing up. I’m pretty sure I had actually played the game before I had ever even seen the movie. This was one of those games that even though you knew it wasn’t very good, you just kept playing it. There’s a lot of those for me on the NES. So, how does Predator stack up so much later? Continue reading

Circling Forward 11-22-16, The One Where I’m Excited About Everything

Did you know that it’s been 3852 days since Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced? Back then, it wasn’t even clear what that game was. Was it another game in the Final Fantasy XIII universe? It didn’t sound like it, or look like it, but then why was it called “XIII”? And Versus what? But, after a decade of development, that kind of doesn’t matter anymore. It missed the entire generation of consoles it was originally supposed to be out on and got a name change. As hard as it is to believe, after all that time, Final Fantasy XV is out in a week. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Blast Corps (Rare Replay)

I was hoping to have my set up for capturing game footage done by this week, but it’s not quite there yet. So, for the sake of easy screenshots, I once again decided to take a look at Rare Replay. This time, the random number generator gave me a game that I rented as a kid, but didn’t really play a whole lot of. In fact, the only thing I clearly remembered was the map screen music, with the words “time to get moving” repeating over and over. So, what kind of first impression (or, technically second impression) does Blast Corps give in 2016? Continue reading
