Random Game Wednesdays: Sword of the Berserk: Guts’ Rage

It’s kind of weird that I own a copy of Sword of the Berserk: Guts’ Rage. It’s a Dreamcast game based on the manga and anime “Berserk”, which I’ve never read or seen. If I remember right, most of the coverage for the game before it was released focused on just how over the top the violence was. That’s probably why I ended up getting it. It’s actually kind of funny, because other than some blood splatter when you hit enemies, the level of violence on display doesn’t seem to be anything too spectacular.  Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Secret of Mana

When I started Random Game Wednesdays, I knew that eventually I would end up with a game that was way too long to properly discuss. The only thing I can really do with a large game like that is to play the beginning and give some early impressions. That’s a little weird with a game like Secret of Mana, a game that I am fairly familiar with. But, it’s been a few years since I’d played it, and even longer since I played it on the SNES, so let’s take a look at the start of Secret of Mana. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

I thought I would try something a little different this week and play a SNES game. My SNES library is not nearly as large as my NES collection, but there’s still enough there to make for a decent variety of possible games. So, I went to my random number generator of choice and punched in my total number of SNES games. Surely, I wouldn’t end up with another licensed game, what were the chances. But apparently last week’s short break from licensed games was all the random number generator would allow. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: The Adventures of Dino Riki

My heart sank after I used the random number generator this week. The first week, it gave me Jurassic Park, a game from my childhood that I had very fond memories of. The second week, it gave me Top Gun: The Second Mission, a game that I didn’t play as a child and could go into with no preconceptions. But this week, it gave me The Adventures of Dino Riki, a game that I have nothing but bad memories of. This is a game that I put tons of time into while I was growing up and had never even seen the first boss.  Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Top Gun: The Second Mission

I collect video games. A lot of the games in my collection are bought from Goodwill, or flea markets, or wherever you might find old games. As a result, there are a lot of games in my collection that I have little to no experience with. Top Gun: The Second Mission is one of those games. After spending an hour or two with the game, I kind of wish I hadn’t. This game is impossible. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Jurassic Park (NES)

Most of the time, movie licensed games turn out to garbage. Sure, there are exceptions, like GoldenEye 007, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, but those are the exceptions to the rule. But every once in a while, you come across a game like Jurassic Park on the NES. A game that’s not exactly a great game or anything, but it’s certainly much better than what you’d expect.
