E… 3 2022? Predictions?

How is it June already? It feels like just yesterday I was writing my top 10 games of the year list. But I guess that’s what happens when you do a terrible job of keeping up on your blog. But enough about that, it’s E3 Season! There may not be an actual E3 this year, but when has that stopped me from posting E3 predictions?

If you’re new here, allow me to explain how these predictions work. Normally, for every E3 press conference, I make three predictions. One of them I think is definitely going to happen, this is called a “Sure Thing.” The second is something that’s less likely, but I’m reasonably sure will happen. This is called my “Pretty Sure” prediction. And finally, we have the “Shot in the Dark,” a prediction that almost certainly won’t happen, but just in case, I want to be able to say that I called it.

Unfortunately, there are no E3 press conferences this year! So I selected some E3 adjacent shows that are popping up around the same time. At least I hope so, one of them is a Nintendo Direct, and that hasn’t been announced yet. But it’ll, happen, right? So, the four shows I’ll be doing predictions for are tomorrow’s Sony State of Play, Summer Game Fest on the 9th, The Xbox/Bethesda Showcase on the 12th, and the so far unannounced June Nintendo Direct.

So, without further ado, here we go.

Sony State of Play

Sure Thing: Astrobot Rescue Mission 2 will be announced for PlayStation VR2

We know that the State of Play is focusing on third party games and PSVR2. I have a hard time believing that Sony would plan on showing the PSVR2 without a follow up to their flagship original PSVR game, Astrobot Rescue Mission. They even made an Astrobot game, Astro’s Playroom, to show off all the features of the PS5, why wouldn’t they continue this trend?

Pretty Sure: Final Fantasy XVI deep dive

We’ve been waiting a long time for more information on Final Fantasy XVI. It’s a PS5 exclusive. It’s a third party game. That makes it a perfect game to show off in a state of play focusing on third party games. Well, that or Remake 2, but I think we’re seeing more of XVI first.

Shot in the Dark: PaRappa the Rapper 3

C’mon, please?

Summer Game Fest

Sure Thing: Hideo Kojima

I don’t know if Hideo Kojima is going to announce a new game at this show. I don’t know if he’s going to announce an update for Death Stranding. All I know, is Hideo Kojima will be there.

Pretty Sure: Hollow Knight: Silksong extended look

I feel like a lot of people assume this is going to show up at a Nintendo show of some sort, but I think it makes a lot of sense for Summer Game Fest. It’s an indie game, which there tends to be a lot of us in the various Geoff Keighley productions. There will be a lot of eyes on this show, especially since there is no official E3 this year. And it’s just time to see this game. Makes sense to me.

Shot in the Dark: Shenmue IV

This is not going to happen. It’d be pretty cool if it did though.

Xbox/Bethesda Showcase

Sure Thing: Starfield gameplay reveal

Starfield was just recently delayed, but that’s no reason not to show a very specific slice of polished gameplay to really get the point of the game across. I don’t think it’s going to be big, but as one of Xbox’s flagship upcoming releases, I think it’d be silly for it not to show up here.

Pretty Sure: Everwild gameplay reveal

We still don’t even know what Everwild is, other than Rare’s next project. I don’t think it’s coming any time soon, but I do think we’re going to get our first look at what exactly that game is.

Shot in the Dark: Banjo-Threeie

Microsoft knows people want it. Just make it.

Nintendo Direct

Sure Thing: The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild deep dive and title reveal

This is another game that just recently got delayed, but this feels like the time to finally really show the game off. What makes this game different from the previous one? What’s the damn title? Even with the game not coming out until next year, these are questions that we should have answers to very soon.

Pretty Sure: New mainline Fire Emblem game

We know there’s a new Fire Emblem Warriors coming, but there’s no way there isn’t also a new regular Fire Emblem game in the works. This prediction counts as correct if it’s an entirely new game or a remake of an older title. I’m personally leaning towards it being a remake, but would rather it be something new.

Shot in the Dark: StarTropics 3

It’s gonna happen one of these days, right?

And that’s my predictions! What do you think? Do these seem reasonable to you? What do you think we’re going to see? Do you think we’ll get a real E3 next year?
