I thought I would try something a little different this week and play a SNES game. My SNES library is not nearly as large as my NES collection, but there’s still enough there to make for a decent variety of possible games. So, I went to my random number generator of choice and punched in my total number of SNES games. Surely, I wouldn’t end up with another licensed game, what were the chances. Xenoblade Chronicles X Check-In: Week 14

Back to Xenoblade this week, and I actually made a pretty serious amount of progress. It helps that despite having to wear a cast for a few more weeks, the Wii U Gamepad fits pretty comfortably in my hands, making Xenoblade one of the few games that I’ve been playing. So, as always, let’s go over some numbers. My current play time is 66 and a half hours, my main character is level 51, and I’ve completed chapter 11 of the story. That means I played about six hours, got ten levels, and finished two story missions. Continue reading →

Project Sonic and What it Could Mean for the NX

Last night, Sega revealed two new Sonic the Hedgehog games. One of them, Sonic Mania is a 2D platformer that brings back levels from Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic CD, as well as some new levels. I think this game looks great. But this post isn’t about that one. Metroid Prime: Blast Ball First Impressions

Earlier today, Nintendo surprised us by releasing Metroid Prime: Blast Ball on for free on the 3DS eShop. Blast Ball is the competitive multiplayer component of Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which isn’t out until August 19th. This free sample is actually the entire mode and will be playable through September and can even be played with people who bought the retail release. Random Game Wednesdays: The Adventures of Dino Riki

My heart sank after I used the random number generator this week. The first week, it gave me Jurassic Park, a game from my childhood that I had very fond memories of. The second week, it gave me Top Gun: The Second Mission, a game that I didn’t play as a child and could go into with no preconceptions. But this week, it gave me The Adventures of Dino Riki, a game that I have nothing but bad memories of. No Xenoblade this week

Unfortunately,  I didn’t have a chance to play any Xenoblade Chronicles X this week. Between work, getting used to wearing a cast on my left hand (I was in a car accident last week) and helping my dad with a project,  the only game I’ve had a chance to play is a little bit of Pokémon Go. So, I’ll do my best to play some this week, and I’ll still have Random Game Wednesdays. Speaking of which, I’m probably going to do another NES game,  because the controller fits surprisingly well in my hand, even with the cast. That’s all I got right now, so look forward to Random Game Wednesdays and I’ll try to have some Xenoblade progress by next Sunday.

I collect video games. A lot of the games in my collection are bought from Goodwill, or flea markets, or wherever you might find old games. As a result, there are a lot of games in my collection that I have little to no experience with. Top Gun: The Second Mission is one of those games. Xenoblade Chronicles X Check-in: Week 13

Once again, it’s time to check in on my progress in Xenoblade Chronicles X! I didn’t have as much time to play this week, due largely to Pokemon Go as well as dealing with a broken finger. The finger is really limiting how much I can use my left hand, meaning this blog post is being written one handed. This also limits how much I can play some video games. But thankfully, Xenoblade is relatively slow paced, and I’m finding that I can continue to play it. Anyway, let’s go over the numbers. I currently have about 60 hours of play time, my main character is level 41, and I still haven’t beaten chapter 10. Continue reading →

Random Game Wednesdays: Jurassic Park (NES)

Most of the time, movie licensed games turn out to garbage. Sure, there are exceptions, like GoldenEye 007, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, but those are the exceptions to the rule. But every once in a while, you come across a game like Jurassic Park on the NES. A game that’s not exactly a great game or anything, but it’s certainly much better than what you’d expect. Xenoblade Chronicles X Check-In: Week 12

Another week, more Xenoblade! And this time, I actually managed to play a significant amount of the game. The majority of my time was spent doing side quests, hoping to save up enough money to buy better gear so that I could finally finish chapter 10. But before we get into all that, let’s start with numbers. My total play time is 58 hours, my main character is currently level 40, and I’m currently halfway through chapter 10.
