Random Game Wednesdays: Lunar Jetman (Rare Replay)

After being disappointed last week with the game the random number generator picked out for me, I thought I’d go back to an old favorite. Rare Replay has been used multiple times for Random game Wednesdays and it might be my all time favorite compilation of video games.  There’s more good on there than bad, but not everything is a winner. Surely I won’t have bad luck two weeks in a row, right? Continue reading

Rare’s Back, But Was Sea Of Thieves Worth The Wait?

After a few years of showing up at E3 and other similar events with very little to show, Sea of Thieves finally released about three weeks ago. Not only was the pirate themed co-op game in development for a long time, but it had been even longer since Rare put out a proper AAA title. Regardless of how little was shown of the game, I knew I’d be picking it up at release just to finally see what one of my favorite developers had been up to. But, is there more to the game than what was shown, or was the lack of information an indication of a lack of content? Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Grabbed By The Ghoulies (Rare Replay)

When Grabbed by the Ghoulies first released it was not very well liked, and it’s pretty easy to see why. This was the first game that Rare put out on a Microsoft console after being bought by the company, so immediately there were some angry Nintendo fans that didn’t want anything to do with it. Add on the fact that unlike the last several Rare games, this was a pretty small and basic game but was still full price, and you get a recipe for disappointment. However, looking at it now, the game does have some things that make it worth checking out.  Continue reading

Microsoft Knocked Their E3 Press Conference Out Of The Park

The last few years haven’t been very kind to the Xbox brand. The Xbox One started its life with a bad reputation, due to plans for “always online” style DRM that despite never actually happening, cost them a lot of their fans. Then you have the fact that the PS4 was more powerful, cheaper, and had a much more diverse line of exclusives. Then Microsoft cancels one of their big exclusives, Scalebound, while others seem to just kind of disappear. As one of the few people who genuinely prefers Xbox consoles to their PlayStation counterparts, it’s been very hard to watch. So, I’m happy to report that this year’s Microsoft E3 Press Conference was phenomenal.  Continue reading

Yooka-Laylee: First Impressions (Xbox One)

I’ve been waiting for Yooka-Laylee for a long time. About two years ago, Playtonic Games, a new studio made up of former Rare developers, launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie games. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it on this blog, but Banjo-Kazooie is one of my all time favorite games. Hearing that a new game in the style of Banjo by some of Banjo’s original developers was reason enough for me to finally contribute to a Kickstarter. I gave enough money for a copy of the game and access to the Toybox demo, and then I waited. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: R.C. Pro-Am (Rare Replay)

Despite being a huge fan of Rare and the NES, R.C. Pro-Am is kind of a blind spot for me. It’s a game I had certainly heard about a lot, and it’s possible that I may have played it at one point in time, but I have no real memory of it. Well, today that changed. I used the random number generator that I always use for these posts and it gave me Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll, but since I had already covered that one, I tried a second time and it gave me R.C. Pro-Am. Continue reading

Killer Instinct Gold Gameplay Video

Hey everyone. Just like last week, I decided to upload my play session of Killer Instinct Gold to my new YouTube channel. There’s no talking or editing or anything, it’s just raw footage of me playing Killer Instinct pretty badly. If you want to check it out, you can see it right here. Let me know what you think of these. Is it interesting to see my actual play session after reading my Random Game Wednesdays post?

Random Game Wednesdays: Killer Instinct Gold (N64)

Killer Instinct will always hold a special place in my heart. I received my Super Nintendo towards the end of its lifespan, and Killer Instinct was the game packed in, and as such, I played it all the time. It was also the first game with blood in it that I was allowed to own, so that’s kind of cool. But despite all that, the game’s sequel, called Killer Instinct 2 in arcades and Killer Instinct Gold on Nintendo 64, kind of came and went for me. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Anticipation (NES)

Some games are so simple in nature that I’m honestly not sure if I’d be able to make a blog post that was decently long before running out of things to say. But, it’s Wednesday, so I have to write about the game that the random number generator gives me. This week it gave me Anticipation, a 1988 board game style video game from Rare. It’s actually a game I like a lot, and one that I was kind of disappointed to see not included in Rare Replay. Continue reading
