Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle First Impressions

Nintendo is no stranger to weird crossover games. There’s the obvious, like Super Smash Bros., the slightly less obvious, like Mario and Sonic At The Olympic Games, and the completely bananas like Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. The newest game to fit into this category is Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, an Ubisoft developed tactical turn-based RPG. Like the weird combination of Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem but also about pop stars for some reason, Kingdom Battle sounds too weird to work. After the first few hours with the game, however, I’m pretty confident that this is one of the good ones.  Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Super Bomberman R (Nintendo Switch)

Like many other Switch owners, Super Bomberman R was one of the first games I got for the console. It’s easy to see why too. Other than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, There wasn’t really a whole lot available at launch. Bomberman was at least a classic IP, and one that hadn’t seen a proper release in many years. It’s been a few months now, how does the game stack up? Continue reading

Splatoon 2 Is More Splatoon, But That’s Not A Bad Thing

Last year, before we knew what the Nintendo Switch actually was, there were several leaked games. One of these, was a port of Splatoon, which made a lot of sense. Splatoon was a fantastic game that gained a strong following, but suffered from being on the Wii U, a console very few people owned. While Wii U ports are happening, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I was very surprised to learn that we were instead receiving a proper sequel to Splatoon. Continue reading

Arms Is Light On Content But Overflowing With Fun

It’s pretty rare that Nintendo releases a game that isn’t part of an established franchise. Earlier this year, they put out 1 2 Switch, a minigame collection that I didn’t play, but before that, the last new IP out of Nintendo that I can think of is Splatoon. Despite not being something we were nostalgic for, Splatoon managed to win over fans with its unique take on the third-person shooter as well as its immediately endearing characters and setting. Was that a one time stroke of genius, or can Nintendo prove itself with another brand new world?  Continue reading

Arms Is Unexpectedly Fun

I don’t usually find myself getting sucked into multiplayer games. There are some obvious exceptions, such as Splatoon, but typically I’d just rather play games by myself. Because of that, it’s always a wonderful surprise when I find a multiplayer game that can hold my attention and refuse to let go. I wasn’t expecting Arms to be the next game to do that, but it just might be.  Continue reading

E3 2017 Predictions

E3 is about a month away, and that means it’s time to start guessing what’s going to happen! This has been a yearly tradition of mine since long before I started this blog. Usually, I would post them as a long Facebook post. Last year, I did the usual post and wrote up a more detailed one here. This year, I’m just going to post them here, since the Facebook post gets buried pretty quickly. Continue reading

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: First Impressions

It’s weird to think that Mario Kart 8 is already a three year old game. It really doesn’t feel like that long ago that I bought the game and obsessively played through every grand prix on every difficulty until I had a three star ranking on each one. Now Nintendo has put the game back out on their new Switch platform. Does the game still hold up after three years? And more importantly, is it worth double-dipping? Continue reading

Nintendo Switch: First Impressions

Even though it’s only been about four months since the Switch was properly unveiled, the console’s release was a long time coming for me. It was right around two years ago that Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president at the time, announced plans for mobile games developed by Nintendo. To ensure their audience that Nintendo wasn’t abandoning the dedicated video game hardware market, he also announced a new console, at the time code named the NX. This resulted in an obsession to figure out what this thing was that held my attention all the way until today. Continue reading

My Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch

About one week ago, Nintendo finally gave us some firm details on their next console, the Switch. I was obviously extremely excited to finally learn about the console’s release date, price, launch lineup, and whatever else they wanted to tell us. A week later and with plenty of time to ponder everything, I’m still very positive on the whole thing. It’s not perfect, but it is really cool. Continue reading

Circling Forward 11-22-16, The One Where I’m Excited About Everything

Did you know that it’s been 3852 days since Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced? Back then, it wasn’t even clear what that game was. Was it another game in the Final Fantasy XIII universe? It didn’t sound like it, or look like it, but then why was it called “XIII”? And Versus what? But, after a decade of development, that kind of doesn’t matter anymore. It missed the entire generation of consoles it was originally supposed to be out on and got a name change. As hard as it is to believe, after all that time, Final Fantasy XV is out in a week. Continue reading
