A little over a week ago, I wrote about my initial impressions with Pokémon TCG Pocket. I was pretty impressed with it, but wasn’t sure how long I would stick with it due to me having a history of not continuing mobile games. Well, I’m still playing. Here’s some updated thoughts.

Collecting cards still feels good. By simply playing the game, you’re rewarded with more opportunities to open more packs, and getting a lucky pull hasn’t stopped being exciting. Just this morning, I pulled an Arcanine EX and it was a great way to start the day. Now I need to get myself a Growlithe so I can integrate that Arcanine into my fire deck.

I didn’t mention events in my last post. The first one is themed around the Lapras EX card. By taking part in battles against the CPU, you have a chance to get a promo pack. These packs contain one card out of a set of five that can only be obtained this way. This includes the Lapras EX, which I’ve happily added to my collection. While these aren’t the most exciting battles, you’re just going up against Lapras decks over and over, it was still nice to get the card I wanted.

Online battles against real players are still fun, but they do highlight the limitations in the current set of cards. People have figured out the best cards to use and use them constantly. I’m guilty of this too, I love using my Mewtwo EX, but the game will get more fun as more cards are added that can counter current strategies. I have high hopes for it.
I’m still really enjoying my time with Pokémon TCG Pocket. Opening a pack of cards has become a mainstay of my mornings and it’s continued to be fun to hop into throughout the day. It’s one of the few mobile games to really hold my attention and I’m hoping to continue playing it for the foreseeable future.
