Switch 2 Direct Predictions

We are officially less than a month away from the Nintendo Direct that will reveal all the details on the Nintendo Switch 2. I thought it would be fun to make predictions on what we’ll be seeing. I also thought it would be fun to use my E3 Prediction rules. But since we’re only predicting one show, let’s do two predictions for each category.

If you’re new here and have never seen my E3 Prediction posts, here’s how they go. I make three different kinds of predictions. The first is the “Sure Thing”, which is something I’m certain will happen. The next is “Pretty Sure”, which is something that I’m not positive of, but I think makes sense. And finally, there’s the “Shot in the Dark”, something that will almost certainly not happen, but if it does, I want to say that I called it. Like I said above, we’re going to do two of each. Let’s get started.

Sure Thing #1: The new 3D Mario game will be revealed.

It’s been almost eight years since Super Mario Odyssey came out, which is pretty wild. Yes, we’ve had other Mario games since then, like Super Mario Bros. Wonder a couple years ago, but not a new 3D platformer. I know there’s been rumors of the Odyssey team working on a new Donkey Kong, but I kind of don’t believe it. We’ll see what they’ve been working on, and it’ll be a new 3D Mario platformer.

Sure Thing #2: Whatever Monolith Soft is working on.

Monolith Soft has been one of the most prolific of Nintendo’s teams during the Switch generation. They put out two Xenoblade games, made enhanced versions of two more Xenoblade games, and even served as support on several products, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Those guys are always pumping stuff out, and even though Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition isn’t out until the end of the month, I’m sure they’re ready to show their next completely new game.

Pretty Sure #1: Ports of Square Enix games

We’ve been hearing for a long while that Square Enix isn’t happy with how their PlayStation exclusive games have been selling. They’ve also seemed very happy with the sales of the PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I think they’re ready to put their big games on the Switch 2. I’m especially expecting to see Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Remake, but this prediction is mainly about Square commit to their games being on Nintendo.

Pretty Sure #2: Super Mario Maker 3

My first thought when I saw that the new features of the Switch 2 was mouse controls was that Mario Maker would be perfect. Mario Maker 2 worked well enough, but it didn’t hold my attention the way the first game did. I think a big part of that was that the game just worked perfectly with the Wii U Gamepad. Using a controller to make levels on the TV just never felt as intuitive, and using the touch screen in portable mode was fine, but then you didn’t get to see it on your TV is real time. Being able to make levels with a mouse would make for much better level building while on the TV.

Shot in the Dark #1: Arms 2

Arms is, in my opinion, the most underrated first party game on the Switch. The combat is super fun, the characters are great, and the multiplayer was addictive. But, other than Min Min getting added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the game has been largely forgotten. That’s a crime and I hope it’s corrected.

Shot in the Dark #3: StarTropics 3

Speaking of crimes, we haven’t had a new StarTropics since the NES. Give me a new StarTropics.

And there’s my predictions. What do you think we’re going to see? Let me know in the comments!
