Random Game Wednesdays On Friday: High Velocity: Mountain Racing Challenge (Sega Saturn)

I thought I’d try something new this week and do a Sega Saturn game for Random Game Wednesdays. Earlier this year, I did a Genesis game and was disappointed when instead of getting any of the cool games I own, the random number generator gave me Warlock, a licensed game for a movie I had never even heard of. My Saturn collection is quite a bit smaller, but there’s some cool stuff in there like Nights Into Dreams and the first Panzer Dragoon. But of course, instead of getting something like that, the random number generator picked High Velocity: Mountain Racing Challenge.

Games That Only I Like

Do you have any games that you love that you don’t think you could convince other people are any good at all? I have some. I guess this is kind of like a guilty pleasure, except that I don’t feel guilty about it at all. They’re just games that I think are good that I doubt people would agree with me about. I’m honestly not sure if this is something a lot of people experience or just kind of a “me” thing. The title of this post is kind of an exaggeration, but I had to make it something snappy. Anyway, here’s some games.

Sonic Superstars First Impressions

It’s been six years since Sonic Mania’s release. That was a game that was immediately clear was a labor of love, a game made by fans for fans. It also might be the best 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game of all time. With that in mind, I was ready for another 2D game when Sonic Superstars was announced. However, with a completely different developer, Arzest, the team behind Balan Wonderworld, it was pretty easy to be nervous. So, how did it turn out?

Random Game Wednesdays: Eternal Champions (Sega Genesis Mini)

I excitedly bought my Sega Genesis Mini on the day it came out, planning to play its really good selection of games for hours on end. That didn’t happen, I mostly just played a bit of Mega Man: The Wily Wars and then got distracted with other stuff. But today I thought, hey, Random Game Wednesdays is a great excuse to play it again. There’s so many good games included, there’s no way I’d end up with a bad one, right? Continue reading

Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2 First Impressions

I wasn’t planning on playing the new Shin Megami Tensei mobile game, Liberation Dx2. I hadn’t even really been paying that much attention to it, but I saw a Facebook post this morning that mentioned it was out now, so I figured, why not? It’s free and I’ve enjoyed  the few SMT games that I’ve played. So, I went to the Google Play Store and downloaded it. Continue reading

Top Ten Games Of 2017

This was a much crazier year than last year. When I had to make my top ten last year, I had only played a total of thirteen games all year. That’s how games I don’t even particularly like, such as Pokemon Go, made it on to my list. This year, I’ve played over thirty. That means that not only did I have to make way more cuts, but there isn’t a single game on here that I didn’t love. That’s better if you ask me. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: GunValyrie (Xbox)

I thought I would do something a little bit different for Random Game Wednesdays this week. I’ve covered games on several different platforms, going back to the NES and SNES multiple times, but I haven’t written about a game for the original Xbox yet. My Xbox collection is pretty small, only about twenty games, but there’s some real gems in there. Unfortunately, the random number generator decided to give me a game that I absolutely can’t stand.  Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise From the Ashes

With the Dreamcast turning 17 just a few days ago, I thought it’d be fun to play another Dreamcast game this week. This time, the random number generator gave me a game that I spent a lot of time with back in the day, but almost never hear anyone talk about. That game is Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise From the Ashes, a Dreamcast exclusive that came out within the first year of the console’s lifespan. Continue reading

Random Game Wednesdays: Sword of the Berserk: Guts’ Rage

It’s kind of weird that I own a copy of Sword of the Berserk: Guts’ Rage. It’s a Dreamcast game based on the manga and anime “Berserk”, which I’ve never read or seen. If I remember right, most of the coverage for the game before it was released focused on just how over the top the violence was. That’s probably why I ended up getting it. It’s actually kind of funny, because other than some blood splatter when you hit enemies, the level of violence on display doesn’t seem to be anything too spectacular.  Continue reading
