Random Game Wednesdays: Medal of Honor (PlayStation)

The original PlayStation isn’t really known for its first person shooters, but there are a few notable ones. When I think of exclusive FPS game son the console, the one that I immediately think of is the original Medal of Honor. This was a World War II themed shooter thought up by Steven Spielberg, of all people, during the making of his movie, Saving Private Ryan. That’s a neat thing, but does the game still hold up?

2024 Game Of The Year Eligible Games!

It’s just about time for my top ten games of the year list! If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably already know the rules, but here they are anyway. To be eligible for my list a game needs to have its first release in the United States happen in the year 2024, full remakes count but not remasters, and I have to have played them. I thought I’d do something different this year and post every game that is eligible. Now, when your favorite doesn’t show up, you can look here and see if I even played it.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind Review

We’ve been seeing something of a beat ‘em up renaissance lately. We’ve seen successful revivals of Streets of Rage, River City Ransom (as River City Girls), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and others. One I really didn’t expect to see happen was Power Rangers. While there were Power Rangers beat ‘em ups on consoles, and were pretty good, they’re not something I regularly heard people asking for. But that didn’t stop Digital Eclipse from putting out a brand new Power Rangers game in the genre.

Crow Country Review

The original PlayStation gave us some of the most genre defining survival horror games. Games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, and many more introduced us to the idea of puzzle solving and inventory management while overwhelming monstrosities tried to kill us. This approach would later shift to being more about action after the success of Resident Evil 4, but many people missed the slower, scarier style of the older games.

Random Game Wednesdays: Final Fantasy VIII (PlayStation)

Any time I get an RPG for Random Game Wednesdays, I feel a little bit of dread. I typically only play about half an hour of a game before writing about it for these posts, and that’s not a lot of time to get a good feel for them. Thankfully, I’m pretty familiar with Final Fantasy VIII. It’s actually always been one of my favorites in the series, however it’s also a game that came out when I was in middle school. Considering how much criticism the game gets, it’s definitely possible that my love for it is mostly nostalgia. But hey, let’s take a look at the beginning of Final Fantasy VIII and see what I think about it.

E3 Or Whatever Predictions 2024

It’s that time of the year again. E3 itself may be gone forever, but video game companies will still absolutely make big announcements in May and June.  As always, I’m here to make predictions about them. There will almost certainly be more, but I’ve chosen five shows to make predictions for. Three that we already know the dates for, one that we know the month it’ll happen in, and one that according to leaks should be happening in the next week or so.

Top Ten Games of 2023

It’s the start of the new year and that means it’s time to reflect on my favorite games of last year. As I do every year, I will be listing my ten favorite games of the year, with a couple rules. One is that remasters don’t qualify, as these are not new games, however full remakes would count. This is a weird year for that, as there are a couple examples of games that really walk the line between remake and remaster, and I may have broken that rule depending on how you look at it, maybe even how I looked at it if you go back and read what I originally said about it earlier in the year. The other rule is that the game had to release for the first time in the US in 2023. I don’t think there’s any weird examples of that with what I played, but it does come up in some previous years.

E3 or Whatever: PlayStation Showcase 2023

PlayStation’s presentations are typically either incredible or fairly boring. Remember the E3 press conference where Final Fantasy VII Remake and Shenmue III were announced? That’s one of my favorite E3 moments of all time. But on the other hand, remember the one where they only showed four games and it was in like a weird church setting? Yeah, pretty boring. This year’s PlayStation Showcase leans more towards boring, in my opinion, but there was a few really great announcements.
