Just Some Games I Played This Year

It’s Wednesday, so if I was keeping with my current pattern, today would be a new installment of Random Game Wednesdays. Unfortunately, it’s late and I haven’t played anything. So, I’m just gonna ramble for a little bit tonight and then tomorrow I’ll do a special Thursday editon of Random Game Wednesdays.

So I thought I’d just briefly talk about some of the games I’ve been playing this year that I haven’t really talked about on this site. These won’t be full reviews or be used in place of full reviews in the future, but it might give you an idea of what stuff I might be writing more in-depth about soon.

Emio- The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club

Emio is a game that I absolutely want to talk about on this site. I’m a huge fan of the previous Famicom Detective Club games and was extremely surprised when this got announced. I don’t want to spoil the eventual review, I’m hoping to get it done this month, but I will say here that it surpassed my expectations. I will be extremely surprised if when I put together my Game of the Year list, it doesn’t make it on.

Kong: Survivor Instinct

This is a weird game. I’m a huge Godzilla fan, so I was pretty excited for a game set in the Monsterverse, even if its focus is on Kong instead. You play as some guy who’s kid has been missing since the events of Godzilla Vs Kong, and has to fight his way through the destroyed city. You get some help from Kong, thanks to an upgraded version of the Orca device from Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Speaking of that movie, that movie’s villain returns in this game too, But, it’s a pretty clunky sidescroller, which seems like a weird move. I don’t know, it’s cool for what it is.

Visions of Mana

I was a huge fan of the remake of Trials of Mana, so I picked up Visions of Mana right away. It has a pretty slow start, which kind of turned me off at first. But the more I played of it, the more I got into it. If you like action RPGs and very traditional JRPG progression, this game is definitely for you and I feel like it’s flying under the radar.

Silent Hill 2

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’ve been playing the Silent Hill 2 remake. I wish I had put more time into it by now, I’m only on the hospital section so far. But I’ve been very happy with it. It captures exactly what I loved about the original back when I was in high school. If you’ve missed the series, this one is worth checking out.
